According to a recent report found in Automobile Magzine, the latest version of Ford Shelby GT500 will employ a twin turbo 3.5 litre, V-6 engine. Along with the port and fuel injection, this V-6 powertrain will be derived from the Ford GT model. Clubbed to this engine will be a six-speed manual gearbox rather than GT's dual clutch transmission system. It is likely to produce a power of more than 600 Hp much like the GT model. However, the exact figures for torque and power have not been disclosed by the company. Apart from this; the brake system, suspension and aerodynamics are derived from GT350 and GT350R models.
The upcoming GT500 will be much lighter in weight than its previous models. This will be possible with the use of carbon fibre and the light weighted engine. It is also expected to be superior in terms of speed and fuel economy.
Reportedly, this next generation model will arrive in the year 2018. The rest of the details have not been disclosed by Ford. Moreover, the company has also not confirmed anything regarding the utilisation of a V-6 or V-8 engine.
If these rumours turn out to be true and the next generation GT500 comes with V-6 powertrain, it might upset many Ford fans. This is because the previous version of this model has been successful in impressing customers because of its power packed V-8 engine. So, the expectations from the new version are definitely high. We just hope the company reveals the details soon and all the speculations come to an end.
