Chevrolet has announced to recall 101,597 units of Chevrolet Beat in Indian market on Tuesday, owing to a defect in the clutch pedal lever. As per the company, the pedal lever may crack when constantly used for a long time. The recall applies to all the diesel variants of Beat model that have been manufactured in the time duration of December 2010 to July 2014. The automaker has already notified its customers who can visit their nearest dealership and take their hatch along with them. The repairing will be done at company's own cost.
As per the company's official statement in a press release, “Quality and care are our highest priorities and we are committed to putting customers at the center of everything we do. If we forsee a potential issue, we ensure that it is corrected as soon as possible, a part of our complete commitment to customer satisfaction.”

This isn't the first time that General Motors has announced a recall. Earlier, it had recalled 114,000 units of Tavera owing to violation of emission norms and then in July 2015, models like Beat, Spark and Enjoy were also called back due to a defective keyless entry. Nowadays, companies have become actively responsible in handling issues at the right time, so as to avoid any legal trouble.
Though, authorities in India are getting stricter than before regarding emission norms, yet there is no stringent law for those companies who are found to equip their vehicles with defective fitments. In many developed countries, the companies are penalised for any such practice and hence in those markets, automakers are extra cautious unlike in India. Hopefully soon, the law in our country will be stricter for such manufactures, if everything goes well.
