After being revealed through many spied shots, the all-new 2017 CR-V has come out with some official images. This is the fifth generation model of the crossover in the global market and will be based on the same compact global platform that is currently running under the Civic. As the company claimed earlier, it will make its appearance with a completely revamped design. Besides, for the first time, it has been offered with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Nothing has been stated for the India-bound unit, but, the continuously increasing demand may force the company to launch the trim here as well.
The latest version of the Honda CR-V will host more angular and aggressive design than its predecessor thanks to the sharp front end design cues, boxy styled bonnet, redesigned headlights with wing-shaped LED daytime running lights, and muscular fenders. Some styling cues are also inspired by the company’s premium class, Acura, specifically on the rear profile and the LED headlights. In addition, it houses an automatic shutter grille technology to minimize aerodynamics drag that was never seen before in this trim.
Moreover, it has also been modernized in terms of dimensions and secures more bigger, longer and wider shape than its regular version. It houses 30 mm more in length, 35 mm extra in height and slightly more in width. Further, for making a good legroom space of cabin, the wheelbase of the car has also been increased by 40 mm.
The new CR-V’s interior flaunts some new contemporary layout. In the previous report, we had mentioned that the European-spec unit will come up with seven seat arrangement and lock the horns with its rivals such as Nissan X-Trail, Kia Sorento, and Land Rover Discovery Sport. In terms of features, it will be furnished with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system integrated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The automaker has also offered ample of attributes namely dual zone climate control, remote engine start, heated wing mirrors, a four-way power adjustable front occupant seat, an electric parking brake, USB charging ports for the second-row occupants, and an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat.
As we mentioned above, the fifth generation Honda CR-V will be powered by an all-new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. This motor will propel the unit with a power of 190 bhp and a torque of 288 Nm. Besides, it will continue to be offered with a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre petrol engine in the LX trim and both motors will be complemented by a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) with the company’s G-Shift control logic.
As of now, Honda is offering only the CR-V in a petrol trim and lack of a diesel unit are affecting the sales in the country. However, a diesel-based unit has also been brought up here for research and development process that was attached to a 1.6-litre oil burner mill. It is yet to come in the segment, but once arrives, it will stand tough for the competitors.
