The South Korean Car manufacturer, Hyundai is all set to showcase Hyundai i20 facelift at upcoming Delhi Auto Expo 2018. Hyundai, the renowned automobile manufacturer has reported that along with the i20 facelift, a new automatic gearbox will be launched. According to the media reports, it is expected that the upcoming Hyundai i20 facelift will be offered a CVT (continuously variable transmission) automatic transmission coupled with a 1.2-litre Kappa engine. It is the first time that the company will be offering 1.2 liter engine on i20.

After the launch of new Hyundai i20, the outgoing 1.4-litre petrol variant of i20 will be discontinued by the company, which is mated with a four-speed torque converter and developed for the European market. Currently, the Hyundai Elite i20 is available in a 1.4-litre engine, which was launched by the company in India in September 2016 but it is not liked by the customers due to the high prices. It is available only in Magna variant priced at Rs 9.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), Rs 81000 higher than the fully loaded Maruti Baleno Alpha CVT.
It is expected that the demand of automobiles in India to enhance by 7 to 8 percent in 2018 and Hyundai to get a good response from the Indian market so that the company invested some amount of money to introduce a new transmission, especially for the Indian market. With the launch of smaller 1.2 litre engine capacity, new Hyundai i20 facelift will put under the lower tax bracket and it will levy 12.5 percent tax which is applicable to sub-4 meter vehicles and cars with 1,200cc petrol engines whereas the current variant of Hyundai Elite i20 1.4 automatic attracted a high tax rate of 24 percent. The source reported that it will not come with paddle shifts and there is a possibility that this feature could be introduced in the near future.
Apart from the engine and the transmission, the new i20 facelift will be updated with styling, a new single-piece 'Cascade' grille, which looks similar to new Verna. The car will come with new alloy- wheels, re-worked tail lights and a new rear bumper.
