For years now, Hyundai i20 has enjoyed the tag of being the ideal family car and it will surely love to add more on to it with the Hyundai i20 CVT facelift. In line with earlier reports, the flagship hatchback now comes equipped with CVT and that too with an economic price tag. The first batch of the Hyundai i20 CVT has already arrived almost across many Hyundai dealerships. In its segment, the Hyundai i20 CVT will play cat and mouse with the likes of Maruti Baleno and Honda Jazz.
Contrary to the retiring model, the facelift i20 is powered by 1197cc petrol engine producing 83hp. The 1.2 liter Kappa engine coupled with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) helps the flagship hatchback to carry a budget price tag, all thanks to the Indian vehicular tax laws.
The outgoing model was powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine. The 1.2 petrol engine means that Hyundai can take advantage of the reduced duty of 12.5 % levied on the sub-4-meter cars with engines under 1200cc. The retiring or pre-facelift model would have attracted 24% tax. This means that the new CVT powered, i20 facelift variants get only about Rs 1 lakh dearer than their manual siblings.

There is little on offer other than CVT in terms of mechanical upgrades but a few noteworthy cosmetic updates include:
The Hyundai i20 facelift undercuts its competitors by a considerable margin. Reportedly, the petrol-CVT combo in Maruti Baleno is in the price range of Rs 7.10-8.41 lakh whereas the CVT option in Honda Jazz costs Rs 7.71-8.47 lakh. 2018 Hyundai i20 CVT at Rs 7.04 lakh is definitely a good value for money keeping in mind the budget-driven and conscious Indian Middle Class.
