Hyundai India had a good time this year in every segment of cars with its new vehicle launches. The company launched its Xcent compact sedan earlier this year and Elite i20 hatchback in the later half. Both the cars did extremely well in the market with the later one chosen to be the Indian Car of The Year 2014. Now, there is a rumor airing in the market that the Korean car maker might update the engine of its Xcent compact sedan with the 1.4 Litre CRDi engine which will replace the current 1.1 Litre U2 CRDI diesel engine that churns out a maximum power of 72 PS and 180 Nm torque as well.
Talking about the car, Xcent is based on the platform of Hyundai's famous i10 hatchback and is full necessary features required for a compact sedan. And, if we talk about this new engine proposal, then it could be the ramification of Tata Zest's fantastic response in the Indian market, which is not letting any other compact sedan to hover near it. There might also be the possibility that with this 1.4 Litre CRDI engine producing 90 PS power and 220 Nm torque, Hyundai may also equip this car with the optional automatic transmission system as well.
Concerning about the price, then after adding the new engine and possible automatic transmission, the new Hyundai Xcent could cost INR 25,000-35,000 more compared to its current ex-showroom price of INR 5.62 – 7.44 Lac. However, the old engine might also still be available to keep the price down and luring the customers.
