The German-based auto-major, Audi which is renowned for producing luxury sports vehicle has commenced the production of the India-bound 2017 Q5 SUV at its newly inaugurated facility in San José Chiapa, México. After snapping number of times in different countries including India, this second-generation 2017 Audi Q5 has finally been showcased at the ongoing Paris Motor Show 2016.

This new production plant in Mexico is the 12th facility of Audi’s world-wide network, while the 2017 Q5 will be the first global model to be built outside the European continent. Spread over 988 acres, the Mexican plant accrued a cost of one billion Euros in order to kick-off the production. It is capable of producing 1,50,000 units of the 2015 Audi Q5 per year.
Based on the MLB Evo platform, the second generation Audi Q5 is around 90kg lighter than its predecessor. Displayed at Paris Motor Show, the compact luxury crossover features evolutionary design updates besides the larger dimension. The second-generation Q5 measures 4,663mm in length, 2,140mm in width, 1,659mm in height, Which make the car 34mm longer, 51mm wider, 4mm taller in comparison to the old model. The wheelbase has also been extended by 12 mm which now stands at 2,819mm.
Beneath the front-end, the 2017 Audi Q5 will feature a range of engines in both diesel and petrol options. The carmaker will offer this next-generation compact luxury crossover across the globe in total 5 variants - 1 in petrol and 4 in diesel. Available in only one variant, petrol powered 2017 Audi Q5 gets 252 bhp 2.0-litre TFSI engine under its hood, Whereas the diesel powered 2017 Audi Q5 include two different engine options and different states of tunes - a 150 bhp 2.0-litre TDI engine, a 163 hp 2.0-litre TDI diesel, a 190 hp 2.0-litre TDI and a 286 PS 3.0-litre TDI.
Gearbox will be available with the choice of 6-speed manual, 7-speed S-Tronic and 8-speed Tiptronic (only for the 3.0-liter TDI engine unit). Moreover, the selected engine variants will be fitted with Quattro all-wheel drive system and the rests will get front wheel drive system.
The long list of features of the 2017 Audi Q5 include Matrix LED headlights, dynamic turn signals (at front and rear both), 21-inch large wheels, adaptive air suspension, ambient lighting with 30 different colours, Audi virtual cockpit, fully digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch high-resolution display, head-up display, 8.3-inch smart infotainment system with MMI navigation system, Qi wireless charging and Bang & Olufsen Sound System.
This second generation compact luxury crossover 2017 Audi Q5 will first go on sale in the European market in early next year, while we can expect its India launch around the third quarter of 2017.
