India-bound 2017 Land Rover Discovery Unwrapped at Paris Motor Show

One of the greatest events in the international motoring calendar, the 2016 Paris Motor Show has been kicked off today. On the press day, Land Rover has uncovered the much-anticipated 2017 Land Rover Discovery in all its glory. British car manufacturer has off taken the veils from the fifth-generation opulent SUV after a bulk of spy shots and speculations. Scheduled for an international launch in the first half of 2017, the new Discovery will go on sale in other markets including India later.

Based on the company’s Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA) platform, the weight of the new vehicle has been reduced up to 480 kg in contrast to the previous generation variant. In terms of dimensions, it has been elongated to almost 5m and 14 centimeters as compared to the earlier model.

Powering the new Jaguar Land Rover is a range of four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel trims, all of them paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox. The petrol variant gets power from a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 unit that pumps out 340 PS of maximum power combined with 450NM of peak torque. The oil burner takes power from a 2.0-litre Ingenium four-cylinder Td4 diesel engine producing 180PS of power and 340NM of peak torque. A more powerful version would include a twin-turbo Sd4 Ingenium four-cylinder diesel motor which will deliver 240PS of max power along with 500NM of max torque.

Being more as an off-road SUV, the latest offering gets a 283mm ground clearance merged with up to 34 degrees approach angle, a break-over angle of 27.5 degrees and a departure angle of 30 degrees. What puts it at the top of the segment is a wading depth of 900mm. Also, it features a four-wheel drive getting two-speed transfer box. To deliver maximum off-road performance, the latter imparts high and low range gears, which can be manually picked. Moreover, a 50/50 torque split has also been provided between the front and rear wheels, though, there is a range of sensors for delivering the torque between the wheels according to the conditions.

The new Discovery range will be presented in five avatars, namely- S, SE, HSE, HSE Luxury and First Edition. Only 600 units of the First Edition will be available for sale in the UK. Concerning the prices, the British manufacturer has set it in the range between INR 37.60 lakh- INR 59.2 lakh.
