In recent times, the Government of India has implied so many rules in order to lessen down the giant issue of pollution, which is at its surge across all the country. Now, Government has taken another step in terms of National Electric Mission Plan 2020 in which they enlightened rules for retro fitment of electric hybrid Kits or hybrid electric system for old cars.
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways stated, “The Retrofitment of hybrid electric system kit to vehicles having Gross Vehicle Weight not exceeding 3,500 kg shall be permitted if it conforms to Bharat Stage-II or subsequent emission norms if it was not retrofitted earlier,”

Further, it is stated that if the vehicle was manufactured on or after January 1, 1990, the conversion of vehicles for pure electric operation shall not be allowed. Besides, the installation of avowed hybrid electric system kit is going to be done only by an installer sanctioned by the manufacture of such kits. Initially, the Government will register the manufacturer such as Bosch and Cummins to design and provide hybrid electric kits.
Although, the cost of electric kits and their installation are not confirmed yet, however it is believed that it should be laid near INR 1 Lakh and is also expected to be decreased with the increased demands.
