KTM India has announced a silent recall for its flagship motorcycle, the new Duke 390. All the D390 bikes which are manufactured in 2017 and 2018 are mandatory to undergo the campaign. Actually, the recall is meant for “Monsoon Kit Figment” which comprises an improved ECU bracket, a remedy to rectify headlamp vibration issue and pillion seat damping bushes. In addition to this, the motorcycles which have an issue of spontaneous headlamp switch off will also be resolved.
Under this recall, the KTM India will fix all these issues obviously for free of cost. The new ECU bracket now comes with a waterproof cover while the new pillion seat damping bushes have been designed to end up tail light cracking issue under the influence of a heavy pillion onboard on current models.
Other than this, in order to improve the overall performance of the bikes, an update programme from KTM India is under process for which no official announcement has been made by the bike maker. The surfaced reports suggest that the new KTM Duke 390 has received updates for the 2018 model year. The changes include an updated software for the instrument console, rpm range running from 1200-1600 to 1200-1800 and reworked radiator housing for better heat management.
Beneath the fuel tank, the powering unit continues to be the same 373cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. Mated to a six-speed gearbox, the engine is rated to churn out 45.5 HP at 9,000 rpm and 37 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm.
In the segment, the KTM Duke 390 goes against the lately launched formidable opponent, BMW G310 R that is available on sale at INR 2.99 lakhs, ex-showroom. The motorcycle with India-made Bimmer’s 313 cc motor gets the peak power of 34 HP along with 28 Nm of torque.
The BMW G310R is under production at the TVS Motor’s Hosur based facility which rolled out bikes for global consumption. Whereas, the KTM bikes are being developed at Bajaj’s manufacturing unit in Chakan, Pune. The upcoming is a 390 Adventure from the KTM, that is slated to launch by early next year. In the segment, it will see competition with the BMW G310 GS.
