Urus SUV was initially unveiled as a concept in 2012 at the Beijing Motor Show and post the unveiling both the Lamborghini and the parent company Audi together have undergone a roller coaster ride. It is also expected that Lamborghini will double the size of its factory and would hire around 500 people, so as to reach production numbers uncharted by the Italian supercar manufacturer before which is a very important now that the Urus has been green lit for production.
Though there is no official news from the automaker on the powertrain of the new Urus SUV, but if Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann is to be believed the SUV could have a turbocharged engine along with a plug-in hybrid option, which could be a de-tuned version of the Lamborghini Asterion’s hybrid tech. The Urus will also be designed as a sports SUV with light off-road characteristics and climbing steep inclines. Urus would get launched in 2018 and once it gets, it is likely to be the first of its kind, and could take the “most powerful SUV” name tag from its distant sister, the Bentley Bentayga.
