Some recent market reports have revealed that Maruti Suzuki is all set to bring a hybrid version of its mid-sized sedan 'Ciaz'. This hybrid car will make use of batteries and motors and will replace the existing diesel variant. The mid-sized sedan was able to sell 50,000 units within first eight months of its launch. However lately, the automaker had to put a discount of INR 50,000 on this model owing to lack of demand and decreased sales. Now, the company is aiming at clearing all the unsold stock before it comes up with the hybrid variant.
As per the reports, its engine will make use of the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle By Suzuki) technology. This technology utilizes a lithium-ion battery that can charge itself with the help of regenerative braking system. It will enhance the torque amount thereby increasing the mileage to 28-30 kmpl. With this figure, Ciaz will become the most fuel efficient vehicle in India by beating Celerio, which currently offers mileage of 27.62 kmpl.
Apart from this, the reports also mention about a 'Blue Technology' that will be utilized in this model. The company has not disclosed further details about this feature, but as far as the term “Blue” is concerned, it hints towards a facility that aids in lessening harmful emissions from the powertrain.
Maruti has always been one of the trend setter entities in the automobile market. Who knows if this idea of hybrid car is followed by other automobile giants as well. The launch is reportedly scheduled to take place within a week of this Independence Day. Moreover, this model might be put up of for sales in company's Nexa showrooms like the newly introduced S-Cross.
