Maruti has been working on the ongoing Alto 800 model, and the automaker is readying the model for a mid-cycle upgrade. It is expected to launch by the end of this month in the Indian market. Some spy shots have been surfaced by the autoportal named gaadiwaadi. This is the first time that the automaker is giving the model some significant cosmetic changes since its debut in 2012.
Sometime before, the automaker even planned to unveil the facelifted Alto 800 in the 2016 Auto Expo. But, due to some reasons the preview could not happen. As of now,the carmaker has decided to come up with the model before the Datsun redi-go Hatchback hits the Indian showrooms, which is scheduled to be launched by the next month this year. Looking to the growing competition in the segment, the automaker had to take this step in order to retain its position in the domestic market. History.
We all know it very well that the Maruti Suzuki Alto is one of the undisputed best-seller since its first debut in the country. It is scaled along the small hatchback segment in the automotive sector. The current Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 comes powered with a 796 cc F8D engine, which is further mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. The engine churns out 47.65 PS of maximum power at 6000 rpm followed by 69 Nm of peak torque at 3500 rpm. The car is offered in both petrol and CNG variants.
The facelift version might get an AMT gearbox, which will definitely offer better handling functionality. The automaker may also offer a better fuel economy in the face lift. To be noted, the current model delivers a claimed 18 kmpl of fuel economy in city, while on highway it is claimed to deliver 20 kmpl. We don’t have idea about what other technical updations are to be loaded with the upcoming Alto 800 facelift.
However, the spied imaged reveal that the front facia of the facelifted version sports a restyled headlamp and the front grille. The hexagonal sharp grille has been reprofiled in a better manner, giving it an elegant outlook. The side profile seems unchanged but the wheels gets a new design . The bumpers are also revised, unlikely to get fog lamps. The interiors could be tweaked little bit with some new attachments and upgrades. The cabin might get some additional features in the infotainment system.
As far as the safety features are concerned, the facelift version would receive front airbag for the driver and an optional ABS for sure. Post launch, the Alto 800 Facelift will be seen competing with the newbies like Datsun Redi-Go and the Renault Kwid as well. The color option is likely to be retained. The present model is available in five different colors- Blazing Red, Granite Grey,Torque Blue, Silky Silver and Superior White.
