At this year's Delhi Auto Expo 2018, car lovers would be able to feast on the latest hybrid technology based cars from India's biggest carmaker Maruti Suzuki. Maruti Suzuki is yet to unveil its hybrid car plan for the Indian market. However, if reports are to be believed, at least one of the two hybrid vehicles, the Swift Hybrid and the Solio Hybrid, will be put on display by the company at the upcoming Auto Expo 2018.
The two cars are already on sale in Japan by the parent company Suzuki. The strong hybrids motor-battery setup is good for covering short distances. Maruti Suzuki claims that its hybrid technology can accelerate the electrification of powertrains in India. These are strong indications for the launch of a (strong) hybrid vehicle in near future.
The Japan-spec Suzuki Swift Hybrid is powered by a 1242cc petrol engine that churns out a maximum power of 91PS coupled with a 5-speed AGS (AMT).
This 1242cc petrol engine, codenamed K12C, is different from the one that powers the Swift 2018 petrol in India. The maximum power generated by the Swift Hybrid’s electric motor is 13.6PS. When compared to India-spec Swift petrol which claims a mileage of 22 km/l, the hybrid hatchback reportedly has fuel efficiency of 32 km/l (in Japan)
The Solio Hybrid was launched by Suzuki during last quarter of 2016. The car claims same power and fuel efficiency as the Suzuki Swift Hybrid. Indian car buyers looking for a practical vehicle on a budget will find an ideal option in this tall hatchback. The car if launched will lock horns with the likes of Santro on Indian roads. But this hybrid offering from Suzuki is not only more powerful but also spacious than its likely competitor.
