The home-grown automaker Maruti Suzuki has now come up with a hybrid version of its famous hatchback car Maruti Suzuki Swift. Recently, at an event held in New Delhi, the Government of India launched Faster Adoption for Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme to aid production of purely electric and hybrid cars to make the country pollution free. The model is named as Maruti Suzuki Swift Hybrid Range Extender and under the scheme, it'll get perks of upto INR 1.38 Lac from government. Also, Maruti Suzuki has said that production of this hybrid version will be done only when the government keeps its promise of providing aid of upto INR 29,000 for two-wheelers and INR 1.38 Lac for four-wheelers.
Talking about the car, it has been powered by 658cc 3-Cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor as well. The car will have 3 modes of driving namely series, parallel and pure electric with petrol engine generating power for Lithium-Ion battery in series mode, simultaneously working of petrol and electric and purely electric for the 3rd mode and would deliver 48 km/l milegae. The driving range of the car in pure electric mode is only 25 km for now, but if this project goes under production, then this range surely get to improve.
Well, the electric cars are surely the future of the world and as the market is favoring the trend in India, even the Nissan Leaf will be coming to India very soon. Now, it'll be just matter of time when other companies step in this arena too.
