Mercedes-Benz may include another compact Sedan, A-Class in India-spec portfolio. Since the 1990’s, Mercedes-Benz’ entry-level model has been the A-Class and in three generations, it just changed the body style only.
But for the first time, the A-Class will appear in two body types such as a hatchback and a Sedan. Which model will make India presence, it is not yet announced by the company. On asking to Mercedes-Benz India’s MD and CEO, Roland Folger, he said, “We are in the process of studying the sedan. As you know the CLA has been highly successful, so sedans work better in the Indian context.”

He further mentioned that the new A-Class will not come to India in 2018. The company is testing the A-Class sedan in other countries and the Mercedes-Benz is likely to launch the three-box A-Class in the market in approximately next year. So, we expect it to launch in India till 2019.
About the positioning of the A-Class in the country, Folger said that the CLA, GLA, and A-Class will be in increasing order when it comes to pricing. He said, “Because the A-Class is not locally manufactured. So, of course, as a CBU, it commands a higher price than others.”
Prices of the CLA and GLA Class in the country start from Rs 31.7 lakh. The next highest priced is the C-Class in India under Rs 40 lakh. So the A-Class has more of space to fit in the range of portfolio in India.
