BS-6 compliant Mercedes E-Class has been launched in India. The pricing for this long-wheelbase luxury sedan starts at INR 57.5 lakh for the base petrol trim and goes up to INR 62.5 lakh for the top-end diesel.
The major changes on the Mercedes E-Class are observed at the mechanical front. The 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines which respectively powers the variants like the E 200 and E 200d has been updated to comply with the upcoming BS-6 emission norms. In terms of performance, the 2.0-litre diesel option continues to deliver the identical power output of 194hp and 400Nm of torque from the outgoing model. While the churned power figures for the petrol motor has been altered, it now stands at 197hp (higher by 13hp) and 300 NM (unchanged). The power transmission on both the mill is handled by a 9-speed automatic gearbox transmission.

Apart from this, the E 350d which is powered by a larger V6 diesel engine not went under the knife to comply with the new emission norms. Whereas the Mercedes E-Class LWB that is a BS-6 compliant offering is available to choose from two trims including Expression and Exclusive. These variant are available with all the available engine options.
In terms of features, the top-end E-class Exclusive variant is packed with a host of new tech accessories just like wireless charging facility for rear occupants, a touchscreen in the rear-centre armrest to supervise car functions and a 13-speaker Burmester surround sound system, unit that was only available with the top-end E 350 variant.

In addition to this, the new E-class gets twin 12.3-inch displays for the respective instrument cluster and infotainment system. This feature is being provided only with Exclusive trim. Earlier than this, the E-class comes packed with an analogue instrument cluster along with a single 12.3-inch display which works as the display to control Mercedes' Comand infotainment system on all non-AMG models.
Considering safety, the E-class continues to come equipped with prevalent safety features like ABS, ESP, seven airbags and the brand’s patented Pre-Safe system.
In its segment, the E-class competes with the likes of the BMW 5 Series, 6 Series GT and the Audi A6 as well.
