Mercedes has recently imported its GLE 250d model to India for the purpose of homologation. The luxury automaker has declared its plan to introduce GLE, GLC and GLS this year. Out of these, only GLE class is going to be launched in the Indian market this ongoing year. This class will be a facelift version and will soon replace the current M class. In the updated version, certain tweaks are expected to be carried on the exterior and interior portions.
From outside this facelift model features an all new grille, multi-beam LED headlamps and revised front and rear bumper. It also carries newly added LED clusters for tail lamps and the dual exhaust system gets a sportier look. Coming to the interior, the cabin houses an all new three-spoke steering wheel and an improved centre console with new buttons on it. There is also COMAND infotainment system and the AC vents have been given a new look.
Under the hood, the 250d model (brought in India) equips a 2.1 litre, four cylinder diesel engine which can generate a power of 204 PS and maximum torque of 480 Nm. Another model belonging to the GLE Class is 350d which is powered by 3 litre, V6 diesel engine. This powertrain can drive a maximum output of 258 PS and the torque pumped out measures 620 Nm. Power is transmitted to all the four wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox. A hybrid version can also make its way as a GLE Class variant.
The arrival of Mercedes GLE Class to the Indian shores is expected around the month of October. Considering the fact that this upcoming model is a facelift version, it can be brought in India through CKD route. This facelift model has been already previewed at the 2015 New York Auto Show.
