Almost 36 years since its debut on European roads in 1982, Mitsubishi has revealed the final editions of the European model of the Pajero. At the back of falling sales and tighter emission norms, the Japanese Automobile maker has decided to retire the Pajero nameplate.
In a move to celebrate the SUV’s legacy, Mitsubishi has announced two special edition models tagged as the 'Pajero Final Edition'. Mitsubishi will make 1000 more units of the retiring model out of which 300 will be of the three-door and 700 will be of the five-door Pajero. Both the signature models would be powered by the same 190hp, 3.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox and full-time four-wheel drive. As a sign-off, each SUV will carry a unique numbered plaque.
The three-door Pajero will rest on special 265/60 R18 tires adorned and protected with 18-inch off-road rims. The 4mm-thick matte black bar protects the front of the beast. The sturdy bars also runs below across the length of the SUV. The SUV comes equipped with an aluminum underbody skid plate for imparting extra protection for the engine and gearbox. Additional features on the last edition units will include automatic headlamps, headlight washers and rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, a Bluetooth-equipped infotainment system, as well as heated seats. The three-door Pajero this time boasts of a heated windscreen.
On the other hand, The five-door Pajero Final Edition rests on 265/50 R20 tires shod with 20-inch alloy wheels. It comes loaded with illuminated door sills, leather seating, a rear spoiler, a glass sunroof. All these Coupled with Mitsubishi's infotainment and navigation system, the Japanese automaker it seems has left no stone unturned to make the last ride into the horizon for the model, a memorable one!!.
In India, Mitsubishi brands the SUV as Mitsubishi Montero. The premium SUV comes with a price tag of Rs 68.6 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). However, there is little confirmation that Indian fans of the SUV will be able to lay their hands on the special final editions anytime soon.
