The fourth-generation Audi A8 L sedan which was showcased globally in 2017, is scheduled to launch in India this year as confirmed from the German luxury car manufacturer. Rahil Ansari, Head of Audi India, confirmed the news at the opening ceremony of a new dealership in Gurugram by saying, "We are launching the A8 by the end of the year. We are open for bookings and already have some bookings confirmed."
The next-generation Audi A8 will be available to purchase globally in two variants-standard (A8) and long-wheelbase (A8 L). Alongside, the previous generation model will also be continued to be on sale. The Indian market is expected to get the availability of the long-wheelbase (A8 L) version.
Dimensionally, the new Audi A8 L which rests on Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform measures 5,302mm in length, 1,945mm in width and 1,488mm in height. As compared to the outgoing model, the upcoming one is 37mm longer and 17mm taller yet 4mm narrower. While the wheelbase is extended at 3,128mm with an increase of 6mm over the last generation model.
For the next generation, the model has received a major overhaul over the previous generation model. It features the brand’s new body language which is embellished with a hexagonal grille upfront along with a sleek pair of HD Matrix LED headlights. While the rear section embraced with slim OLED tail-lamps associated a full-width light bar.
Inside the cabin, Audi uses a clean design language however with the composition of several digital surfaces as an instrument cluster. It incorporates a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 8.6-inch curved display as a centre console to operate various climate control and seating functions. The seating on the A8 provides multi-functions heating and massage while a foot massager is being provided for the rear seat passenger.

In terms of powertrain, the flagship sedan model from Audi is being offered with several options which include two 3.0-litre, V6 turbocharged petrol and diesel engines which are capable of churning out 340hp and 286hp respectively. Other than this, the company also offers a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo petrol V8 engine with 460hp of power and a Audi A8 L W12 Quattro engine version and a plug-in hybrid.
Here in India, we expect the launch of new A8 L with either a 3.0-litre V6 diesel or a petrol variant along with the integration of a mild-hybrid tech. In terms of pricing, going to hit the Indian market as a CBU unit, the A8 is expected to be tagged with the price sticker of INR 1.30-1.40 crore (ex-showroom). In this price segment, the luxury sedan is likely to take combat with the likes of facelifted BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S-Class, Lexus LS500h and the Jaguar XJ.
