It’s been three years of the launch of the present BMW X5 and now the automaker is planning to bring the new BMW X5 by 2017. The new BMW X5 is likely to be based on a new platform and come up with some unique design pattern and interior features. As of now, the automaker has no plans to replace the X5 model.
The new X5 will be sharing the new Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform that underpins the 7 series sedan. CLAR uses aluminium, high-strength steel and carbon fibre that makes the chassis hard and also keeping it light. Interestingly, the upcoming BMW X7 will also be based on the same CLAR platform.
Under the hood, the new X5 is likely to come with a 3.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine along with a 6.0L V12 engine, mated to a six speed transmission. In future, the automaker might include a hybrid variant as well.
On the exterior counterpart, the new X5 will not be too much different from the present model. The difference will lie only on the accessories assembled within the car. The large iconic kidney grille in the front is likely to be passed over to the next generation X5.
