The ongoing Tokyo Motor Show has been witnessing a wide array of showcases from various automobile giants. Recently, Volkswagen has also displayed its next generation Tiguan model along with the Tiguan GTE concept. The company has previously presented this SUV in the Frankfurt Motor Show and it is likely to make its way to the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo as well. It is reported that this vehicle will arrive in the Indian market by next year and post that this vehicle will be competing with the well established names like Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the all new Chevrolet Trailblazer.
It will make use of the MQB platform and will be bigger, yet lighter than the outgoing Tiguan. Coming to the dimensions, it stands 4485 mm long, 1839 mm wide, 1633 mm tall and offers a wheelbase amounting to 2682 mm. The load capacity measures 2500 kgs and the boot space is 615 litres that can be further expanded when the rear seats are folded down.
The base spec model will house a five-inch touchscreen display while the top end variant will contain an 8-inch touchscreen interface accompanied by a navigation facility, Apple Car Play, Android Auto, Mirror Link and much more. Further features like three-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, panaromic sunroof, 360 degree area view, etc will also be present. Safety components that come as standard across the range include 7 airbags, lane assist, front assist with city emergency braking alongside pedestrian monitoring, and automatic post-collision braking system.

Coming to the engine specifications, buyers will have a choice among a TSI and a TDI unit that develop output ranging from 123Bhp to 237Bhp. These motors will return a fuel efficiency that will be 24% more than that of the existing version. The entry level trim will make use of an FWD drivetrain, while the top ranging variant will be offered with an AWD setup.
