AMT is the buzzword doing the rounds across the Indian Automobile Sector. But Ford Motors it seems is little impressed. The American Automaker has reportedly consciously refrained from introducing the in-demand technology in any of their India bound products.
A major reason for Ford’s shunning of AMT is the drive experience that Ford Cars are known for. As per Ford, AMT requires a great trade-off with comfortable and smooth driving experience. The fun-to-drive character is something which is beyond barter for Ford Motors.

Another strong reason is the limited number of AMT suppliers in the market right now. This makes it difficult to differentiate and rate the AMT performance of different cars. AMT’s limited fine-tuning capabilities has compelled Ford Motors to carry on production with torque converters.
Ford is looking forward to the introduction of the torque converter on all range of products in the Figo segment. The Figo is powered by the 1.2-litre Dragon petrol. Reportedly, the current line of Ford EcoSport 1.5-litre Dragon petrol engine comes mated to a torque converter. In a bid to stay competitive, Ford might choose to produce the gearbox in India itself.
