Elon Musk, CEO, Tesla Motors, has assured that the Model Y, SUV which was teased in June 2017 is to start production by 2020. The compact fully electric SUV will be added in the second-gen Roadster lineup (expected a launch by 2020). According to Musk, the Model Y will be a ‘manufacturing revolution’. The company’s waiting period extended to one year for the Model 3 sedan. Seeking the global interest in SUVs, the Model Y is expected to get demand advantage as compared to Model 3.
To fulfill the requirement of the Model T, Henry Ford launched the new line in 1913, which is working for the mass production of cars.
To enhance the production, the company restricted the customization variants on Model 3 and likely to go along with the Model Y. It is also expected that the two models can share the parts.
The Model Y is expected to take standard and long-range versions same as the Model 3 along with similar range. For reference, The Model 3 is set to touch around 350km for the standard and 500km for the long-range variant. The Model Y is likely to be bigger in dimensions like the BMW X, Audi Q3 and others.
The Model Y will be produced at the existing Fremont facility of Tesla along with the S, 3, and the X. The new factory can be announced for the Model Y SUV later this year, as mentioned by the Musk.
The Sedan counterpart of Model 3 is likely to come to India and will be the first official Tesla product priced in India. Seeing the popularity of SUV in India, the Tesla will not miss a chance to launch entry-level SUV in the Indian market.
