Renault Nissan Partners with Microsoft to Evolve Connected Car Technologies

Renault-Nissan Alliance and Microsoft Corp. have joined hands for a multiyear agreement in which they will work on next-gen technologies for the future of connected driving experience. Microsoft being America’s multinational technology company, is a giant network spread worldwide offering best software services. Nissan is showcasing its intent to bring an update to the car software via one of the Microsoft’s intelligent cloud offerings, Azure.

Both the brands will work together for the delivery of connected services, which will improve customer services up to a great extent. The update will be done through advanced navigation, predictive maintenance and vehicle-centric services, external mobile experiences, remote monitoring of the features of the car and over-the-air updates.

Ogi Redzic, Renault-Nissan Alliance senior vice-president, Connected Vehicles and Mobility Services, said, “A car is becoming increasingly connected, intelligent and personal.”

Nissan Autonomous Driving

The motto of Renault-Nissan is to manufacture more than 10 vehicles having the autonomous driving feature by 2020. Via the connectivity attributes on mainstream and autonomous driving, it desires the mass-market vehicles at economic prices.

Via this partnership, the best-in-class infotainment and location-based services will be accelerated, which, in turn, will benefit the customers in these aspects: 

Personalization and protection of settings can be done by the customers: Settings can be transferred from one car to another through customization. One can lock and disable the transfer as well. Drivers can experience a driver-centric feel in the car through adaptive route suggestions and advanced navigation.

Productivity: Renault-Nissan will enlarge the reign of productivity into the car with the aid of Microsoft. Imparting digital experiences will transform the daily commute into a productive one.

Give access to over-the-air updates: over-the-air updates can be downloaded by the customers so that they can latest autonomous drive program and collision-avoidance applications.
Help customers stay in touch: Estimated time of arrival will be easily checked. Moreover, customers can alert their pals in case there’s a change of plan. Automatic payment will also be done from the car for the highway tolls and parking areas.

Monitor the car from a distance: The car can be monitored from anywhere via the owner’s mobile or laptop. Without delivering the physical keys, they would be able to transfer the control to any of their friend or relative who requires the car. This will be done with a mobile application which can trigger remote charging and preconditioning and lock as well as unlock the car.

Protect the vehicle: ‘Geofencing’ technology will be incorporated, which will build invisible fences throughout the car. Whenever the car enters or exits a predefined area or a route, notifications will be enabled.

Improve the vehicle experience: Customers will be able to access the advanced vehicle diagnostic services via this connectivity. This support will support the engineering in order to ameliorate the manufacturing quality of the vehicles by collecting real usage data.
