Skoda is thinking to launch a vRS variant of the anticipated electric SUV that will use the Vision E concept. The upcoming variant is expected to take ‘eRS’ badge and will be unveiled in 2022, which is about to come after the launch of the electric version by 2020.
Alain Favey, sales & marketing chief, Skoda, affirmed, “There will be a vRS performance version of our future electric car.” He further said, “It will be more about styling and experience, and not necessarily performance."
Speaking about the vRS performance company, he added, “Customers like the sporty experience without [the car] being a flashy sports car. The most powerful vRS is 248.4hp, so it’s about the look and the sporty driving of the car.”
The standard electric SUV uses the Vision E concept as mentioned in the Shanghai motor show last year, will take the MEB platform of the Volkswagen Group’s electric model as used in company’s all models.
Coming to the cabin, the car will take the floating' screen as available in the Vision X concept. Whereas the Vision X will come as the smallest SUV by next year in the Skoda series, this screen will be further used with electric models of the Skoda, beginning with the SUV, mentioned Favey.
Whereas Volkswagen is taken as the brand offering various battery capacities along with multiple kilometre ranges, he explained the electric SUV comes between the Kodiaq and the Karoq considering the size, will provide a battery which is able to acquire the capacity of 483km in range.
The company will introduce the electric version after 2018 as compared to the rivals, comprising Volkswagen electric ID hatchback which expects a launch in 2018 later.
