India’s first maxi-styled scooter, Suzuki Burgman Street 125 has been launched at the price tag of INR 68,000, ex-showroom. The Japanese bike maker managed to sell more than 10,000 units across the country since its launch. The 125cc scooter segment has a better room, the brand is looking for efficient sales in India as the country is being referred to as the most important market.
Last month, the Suzuki Motorcycle India witnessed the growth of 56.6 per cent in domestic sales contributing above mentioned dispatched units of new Burgman Street 125. The reported sales figures were 53,321 units as compared to 34,038 units in the similar month last year. The newly launched Suzuki products help in generating the highest ever monthly sales for the brand.
Sajeev Rajasekharan, EVP, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd. said, “Our commitment to offer world-class product to Indian customers continues with the introduction of Gixxer/SF SP 2018 Series and the launch of the new Burgman Street. We have already completed more than 10000 dispatches for Burgman Street within the first month. The positive customer sentiments and healthy demand in urban & semi-urban areas have spurred the growth momentum. This augers well for us ahead of the festive season.”
Moreover, Suzuki Motorcycle India reported an overall sales of 58,805 units that is 47.1 per cent up from the collected sales in the similar month last year. While, in duration April-July 2018, the firm dispatched 2,28,908 units with a hike of 37.5 per cent. The Suzuki Burgman Street 125 and the new Gixxer/SF SP 2018 Series were introduced to the existing lineup during last month.
The Suzuki Burgman Street 125 is targeted to young generation audience. It is designated above the Suzuki Access 125 and competes against the likes of Honda Activa 125 in the segment. Featuring bulky design language, the maxi-scooter measures 1,880mm in length, 675mm in width and 1,140mm in width along with a ground clearance of 160mm. The scooter has a wheelbase of 1,265mm and kerb weight of 108kgs. It stands on 14’’ alloy wheels and has a fuel tank capacity of 5.6 litres.
The scooter features a host of components shared from available on sale Intruder motorcycle, which includes an LED headlamp, all-digital instrument cluster, and newly designed exhaust muffler. In addition to this, it gets a 12V charging socket, a multi-functional key slot and tubeless tyres. The braking on the Burgman Street 125 is handled by a 170mm front disc brake and a 130mm rear drum brakes. Whereas, the suspension setup on the scooter comprises a telescopic front fork and hydraulic rear suspension.

The powertrain is borrowed from the Access 125. The 124cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine is rated to generate the maximum power of 8.6 bhp at 7,000 rpm along with 10.2Nm at 5,000 rpm. It churns out the fuel mileage around 53kmpl.
In current scenarios, the Suzuki Access 125 is the revenue generator for the company with 80 per cent share in the brand’s domestic sales last fiscal. In the financial year 2018-19, the firm is pondering to attain the sales up to 5 lakh scooters. It will be interesting to see how the new Burgman Street perform alongside Suzuki’s most selling scooter, the Access 125.
