One year back, it was informed that the Tata Motors will supply around 3,192 units of the Safari Storme to our Indian army. The Tata Safari Storme is a replacement of Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. The car meets all the criteria mentioned by the Indian army to be fulfilled. It takes 800 kg payload capacity, hard top, and air conditioning. The new Safari is Indian army ready with the new cool matte green paint job. The Tata SUV to the army is appreciated by Mahindra and Nissan.
The army specific version has some differentiation as compared to the standard model of the Tata Safari Storme. The matte paint job of the SUV avoids reflections. Further, it adds a horizontal light beam and the front and rear bumper mounted with the blackout lamps.
Other modifications comprise de-chromed look and blacked out or sprayed matte green paint. Further, it has a canister mount on the rear fenders and a large hook at the rear to mount a trailer. The military version also gets a radio antenna on the bonnet.
Some mechanical changes also added to the car. These comprise beefier suspension and better underbody protection. It will take the same 2.2-litre engine as standard. A 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit is able to produce a max power of 154 bhp and a peak torque of 400 Nm. All the models destined for the army will be standard along with a low range and a high range option, four-wheel drive, and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
