Tata To Downsize the Engines of Hexa and Safari Storme Models

As we are familiar with the Diesel car ban that has been imposed on the cars carrying a maximum displacement of 2000cc. The ban was imposed by the supreme court of India which validates till March 31 and now has been extended further more. This has made the automakers to think on downgrading the engine size of their respective vehicles. Looking to this matter, Tata Motors has planned to downsize the engines of the upcoming Hexa and Safari Storme models. The said models could get smaller sub-2L engines.

However, it is not clear that the carmaker will introduce a newer engine or it will just rework on the same engine as done by Mahindra. The Safari storme comes powered by a 2.2 Litre unit which can be tweaked for further reduction in the total displacement. Tata Hexa has been scheduled to be launched by June 2016.

Similarly, Mahindra reworked on the engines of Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra XUV500. The automaker successfully introduced a smaller 1.99-liter engine for both the models. The engine is said to be the re-engineered version of the 2.2-liter mHawk unit. The NCR administration had officially announced a ban on the sale of vehicles offering engines more that 2000cc in a bid to to control the rising pollution level in the region.
