As per sources, the all-new Wagon R which has been codenamed as YCA is slated to step out from the Maruti Suzuki factory around the festive season of Diwali this year. The R in the Kei car’s name stands for ‘recreation’ and hence, Diwali, it seems is the right time for the new Wagon R’s debut on Indian roads. Maruti-Suzuki partnership is known for catering primarily to the demands and comforts of the budget-driven Indian Car lovers. Maruti plans to ship 18,000 units a month for the all-new WagonR. The sales figure for the retiring model stood at 1,68,644 units in FY 2017-18.
With 14,000 units sold per month in the last financial year, Maruti-Suzuki ensured that the top five spot for the best selling cars of the year remains occupied by Maruti Suzuki siblings. The top five spots were occupied by The Alto, The Dzire, The Swift, The Baleno and the outgoing Wagon R. If Maruti happens to achieve its sales target f
or the YCA, WagonR would jump 3 spots and sit on the second position in the coveted list. Reportedly, the car makers have opted out of Suzuki’s new Heartect platform to keep the price in sync with budget constraints of the Indian Middle class.
The new Maruti Wagon R like previous models will borrow its ‘tall-boy’ design features from the retiring predecessor. A complete family car, the new Wagon R despite its small size promises incredible room and boot space. The latest-gen Wagon R has already been launched in Japan. The Japan-spec model in compliance with the Japanese small emission norms is powered by a 660cc engine. However, the Indian model of the car will use the bigger 1.0-litre engine. The engine will be coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox. Buyers will also be able to opt for a five-speed AMT. The new Wagon R may carry a slightly bigger bonnet this time around to accommodate the larger Engine.
In its segment, The new WagonR will lock horns with Tata Tiago, Renault Kwid, Maruti’s own Celerio and Hyundai’s upcoming Santro.
