Toyota Banks Upon Lexus LC 500 Coupe to Shed its Boring Image

On Monday, Toyota showcased the Lexus LC 500 coupe and sent out a loud and clear message that is planning to compete with other German luxury carmakers both in terms of sales and glamour. The coupe was presented at Detroit Auto Show 2016 by Toyota President, Mr Akio Toyoda. The LC 500 is a low slung car based on the LF-LC concept and is underpinned by GA-L (global architecture for luxury vehicles) platform.

At the event, Mr Toyoda was quoted as saying, “The LC 500 has been an important product for Lexus and me personally,” he further added, “A few years ago, we decided to guide the future of the brand with products that had more passion and distinction in the luxury market.”

Under the hood of the coupe, a 5 litre,V-8 engine is found that also powers the performance oriented models like GS F and RC F. This motor is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission facility that is being used for the very first time in the industry. This mechanical setup aims at enabling the LC to cover 0-60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds.

It is believed that this Lexus offering flaunts a curb weight of 4,200 pounds that makes it 500 pounds lighter than Mercedes S-Class Coupe and almost equal to BMW 650i coupe. Further, it offers a wheelbase of 13-inch that can make you think about comparing this luxury with others in the segment like S-Class coupe and BMW 6-Series coupe.

Certain elegant features like 20/21 inch alloys, rear spoiler and a glass roof come as standard. The LC 500 Coupe is expected to be rolled out in the US and Japan by 2017 spring. Its price is expected to be fixed under USD 1,00,000. The automaker could also introduce the model in a V6, hybrid or
