The new second generation Toyota Fortuner which is set to arrive in India by early 2017 has been awarded with 5 star rating in the Latin New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP). This makes the car most suitable as per the safety parameter.
We can expect the Fortuner loaded with the similar safety package as the Hilux pick up, which offers dual front and knee airbags plus ABS. Interestingly, Hilux has also scored 5 star rating in the crash test conducted by the NCAP. In other news, Honda BR-V has also scored the same figure in the NCAP test for Southeast Asian countries.
The Indian-spec Toyota Fortuner shall be offered in two diesel engine options- 2.4 and 2.8 litres. The former is expected to propel power and torque outputs as 160bhp/400 Nm, while the latter shall churn out up to 177bhp/450Nm, respectively. The transmission will be done by a six-speed manual as well as a six-speed automatic gearbox. With these impressive features and performance, Toyota is likely to get into close rivalry with new Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Trailblazer.
Now a days, automakers have started giving more emphasis on good safety rating for their vehicles. The safety ratings attract the consumers as it's the top priority before checking out any vehicle.. The Global NCAP has recently raised concern over the cars that have failed the safety test and scored zero rating. The authority pledges to remove such cars by 2020.
