Toyota is now all set to introduce its all new fourth generation Toyota Prius in the Indian Automobile market by the year end. Unfortunately, the upcoming model may not be introduced equipped with Toyota Safety Sense.
Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) is a combination of safety features which relies on a camera and a multimetre radar system to increase or enhance the safety of the car and users. TSS features lane departure alert, automatic high beam activation, adaptive cruise control and pre-collision system. Toyota Prius is supposed to be the first car globally to get this system.
The reason of absence of this system in the India-spec model is the government disapproval for the use of radar system in personal cars. Due to this opposing, leading car manufacturing firms like Volvo and Mercedes are also not capable of introducing their latest driver-aid related safety technology in India.
As per the specifications of the upcoming car, it comes with a 1.8 litre petrol engine working with an electric motor and a battery pack to supply low CO2 emissions and an excellent fuel efficient mileage of 40.8kmpl. According to the company, the new-generation Prius is 25.2 percent more efficient than its older variant, in which 18.2 percent includes improvements in drivetrain. Prius in India is likely to cost more than Camry Hybrid owing to being a CBU.
