The Japanese auto major is gearing up to bring the Vios sedan in India, as recently a prototype of the Toyota Vios sedan has been spotted testing on the Indian roads without any camouflages. Though this sedan has been expected to make its Indian debut for a long time, it is still on the papers. The car was also expected to be showcased at this year’s Auto Expo, but it could not make through.
However, the Vios is still unconfirmed for its India launch. Even if the sedan gets the approval, it will take 10 or 15 months to Toyota to put the car on sale. Whenever the Vios sedan goes on sale, the company will be battling it out against the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, and Hyundai Verna in the Indian market.
As we told before, the test mule was not camouflaged and One can have an idea about how the India-bound Vios will look alike, but the prototype did hide all the Toyota badge under a tap. Revealing the entire exterior details, the test mule missed some important features such as projector headlamps, fog lamps and LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights), though we can expect them all on the production variant.
Some reports suggest, the next generations of the Vios will borrow design ideology from the brand’s premium sedan, Camry. The facelift and next generation models of the Vios are already on sale in the international market.
In terms of dimensions, the Vios will be a little smaller than its rivals like the Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Ciaz. It measures 4,410 mm in length, 1,700 mm in width and 1,475 in height.
In terms of powertrains, Vios will feature the same engines beneath its front end as the Etios sedan has – a 1.4-litre diesel and a 1.5-litre petrol. However, the tuning of the engines will be altered in order to produce improved power and performance.
The car will be slotted above the Etios sedan in the Indian market and we can expect it in the range of INR 8 lakh to INR 11 lakh.
