Japanese carmaker Honda has recently confirmed that the new Honda Brio series will be manufactured for the global market and it would not be limited only to India. The automaker is currently developing new platform based cars in order to make its way to the global markets. Looking India as a key market, Honda is keep in exploring more opportunities in other shores as well.
The new Brio series will be based on a new platform, which is undergoing development in Thailand these days. Talking about the Honda Brio series to Autocar personnel, Honda CEO said, “It is a global model and not exclusively for India. Honda’s R&D is developing some new platforms and in that case it is shared with India also. The platform is developed mainly in Thailand but in collaboration with Japan and India.” As per some reports, the new Brio is expected to join the production line up at Honda’s Greater Noida Plant in India by February 2018.
The automaker has already confirmed that the plant will roll out the new Amaze model followed by the new Mobilio MPV from the plant during the upcoming consecutive years 2018-19. Presently, Honda Cars India manufactures prominents car models like CR-V, JAzz, City, Amaze, Mobilio and Brio at Greater Noida and Tapukara plant, which is located in Rajasthan. We noticed the grand launch of the new BR-V compact SUV on on May 5, which was also produced at the automaker’s Tapukara facility. The automaker aims to boost the production rate of the BR-V by producing 40,000 units annually.
BR-V is available in both petrol and diesel options, the petrol BR-V comes powered by a 4-cylinder 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine, which is further mated to a new six-speed manual transmission and offers continuously variable transmission. While, the diesel variant is equipped with a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine, which comes paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Dual SRS airbags have been provided as standard across all the variants of the 7-seater BR-V. The base variant is available at a starting price of Rs 8.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the top diesel VX version costs Rs 12.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
Honda has already started shipping the BR-V units to the dealerships, maintaining the demand and production scale at its best. Jnaneswar Sen, senior VP (sales and marketing) had made it clear that it normally takes around 10 days for shipments to reach the concerned dealerships. The deliveries have started against the booking registered in the April month. The April sales chart indicates a sales report of around 567 units.
Moreover, the company is facing a severe drop in sales due to the continuity of the diesel ban in Delhi-NCR region. The carmaker plans to set up 340 more outlets by end of Q1 2017.
