In the year 2011, the Swedish car manufacturer Volvo displayed its Volvo Concept Universe and said the company's future model will be based on that. Now, one vehicle which is getting developed on the basis of it is the successor of Volvo's only premium sedan S80, which is to be present as S90. Volvo also let us know a few details about it and now a few more have emerged. The new information includes the engine details of S90 which it's going to inherit from the recently launched XC90 SUV. The car is scheduled to be launched in the Indian market later this year, but first it'll hit the road in it's manufacturing country, that is China.
Now, the engine of this luxury sedan will feature D4 and D5 diesel trims for the initial production and they are able to produce the handsome output of 400 hp power and 600 Nm of torque. As we told you earlier, these engines have been inherited from the recently displayed India bound XC90 SUV. The car will be based on the Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) and will get customized long wheelbase.
For now, there are only two premium sedans, available in Volvo's portfolio, namely S60 and S80. The former has recently got updated as S60 Cross Country and the latter has received a facelift last year. And, we could expect the new S90 to be launched somewhere after the first half of 2015.
