Having a several engine categories for the Indian line-up, now, Yamaha India is planning to enter in the middle-weight segment to compete with the recently launched Honda CBR 650F. The firm is also focusing on the research and development process and will introduce Ant-lock Braking System equipped motorcycle for the Indian two-wheeler market. The company is also planning to increase the localisation of the product development. In an interview with AutoCar Professional, Yamaha Motor Research & Development India President- Yasuo Ishihara said that the Japanese two-wheeler maker will introduce a Honda CBR650F rivaling product for the subcontinent.
The Yasuo Ishihara has not revealed any details about the product and launching date, but it is expected that the new middle-weight motorcycle will be fully faired that would be delineated with a 600cc in-line four cylinder motor. The upcoming middle-weight motorcycle could be taken a couple of years to make its debut in the Indian-two wheeler market.
Speaking about the company’s future product strategy, Ishihara added that, “This is related to the marketing strategy and manufacturing condition but personally I want to expand in the over-500cc segment. Honda has recently launched the CBR 650F (in India) and we want to catch up. If everybody in our company agrees, then we can introduce such a model very quickly as we have it in other countries. Initially, we can bring it as a CKD.”
