After introducing two Super sports racing motorcycles in the country, 2015 Yamaha R1 and R1M; the firm is now concentrating over the commuter segment. The 2015 Yamaha R1 and R1M are making their availability carrying a price tag of Rs 22.34 Lacs and Rs 29.43 Lacs (Ex-Showroom Delhi). The next offering from the Yamaha Motors India is expected to be the Saluto motorcycle, a basic commuter segment motorcycle. Although, nothing can be said about the upcoming product, whether it could be a scooter or a motorcycle.
The firm has sent out an invitation addressing a new product, which will be launching on the 17th April, 2015. The invitation says, "Unfolds another exciting chapter of its journey in India". Believing the sources, it could be the newly spied commuter motorcycle, probably named as Yamaha Saluto. The firm has released a teaser sketch of the upcoming motorcycle showcasing a bit of designing, curves and cues acquired by the product. The images showed-up the riding posture of the rider, alloy wheels and straight seat for comfortable riding.
The upcoming standard motorcycle would be expected to feature a single-cylinder motor carrying an engine displacement of 123cc. The air-cooled engine is tuned to deliver a total power of 11 PS @ 7500 revs and 10.4 Nm of peak torque @ 6500 RPM, while mated to a 5-speed transmission. The Yamaha Saluto is expected to be sharing its mechanism with the currently available SS 125. Being a 123cc displaced commuter engined motorcycle; it is expected to achieve a good mileage range in between 70-80 KMPL.
The Yamaha Saluto would be expected to carry a price tag of Rs 55,000 (Ex-Showroom) and it will be competing against the existing TVS Phoenix and the Honda Shine. The launching ceremony will be going to held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and is addressed by Mr. Masaki Asano, MD of Yamaha Motor India and Mr. Roy Kurian, VP of Sales and Marketing at Yamaha Motor India.
