Microsoft's handy hands-free feature 'Hey Cortana' for Android has been removed by the company on Sunday. Cortana for Android users are expressing their huge disappointment after this move by the firm. Microsoft offered this feature prior this month in United States and China. Interesting thing about it was the hands-free 'Hey Cortana' voice recognition, which allowed users to search something by vocalizing the query, similar to the 'OK Google' feature.
It looks like the removal has been done to mitigate a bug, while the reviewers are very upset as they can't be able to use Microsoft's virtual assistant via their voice search. Microsoft conveyed, users were unable to use the Android's systemwide voice search feature, when 'Hey Cortana' was enabled. Simply we can say, users who wanted to speak to their phones via both "OK Google" and 'Hey Cortana' were not be able to do that now. Running both the features parallel might seem strange, yet any app can support Google's voice-activated search. "We've received user feedback that the 'Hey Cortana' feature is conflicting with Android voice search and are temporarily disabling the feature while we evaluate a solution," said by a Microsoft's spokesperson.
Interesting part is, the issue did not come up while the beta testing for Cortana on Android. Though the company have not said a word about the exact conflict, media reports stated that after installing the Cortana App on the smartphone, some users were not able to access their microphone to use Google Now Feature.
Well, at this point, Microsoft has temporarily disabled the feature and it is unlikely to reappear before 2016. Though, this malfunction could have been reported when the Cortana was still in the testing stage.
