The smartphone was developed in collaboration with Google under Project Tango and it strives to make Augmented and Virtual Reality as popular as GPS. Phab 2 Pro will be available globally through retail stores in September, in advance of Apple's anticipated release of the iPhone 7, and through the online site by August 2016 at Rs 33,500.
Currently, the smartphones use GPS and cell towers to track location. On the other hand, Phab 2 Pro will use software and sensors to track motions and map building interiors, including the location of doors and windows. This feature will prove revolutionary in the smartphone market.
Tango will be able to create internal maps of homes and offices while in motion. Unlike in other phones, Google won't be required to create a mapping database ahead of time, as it's done in Google Maps. Although privacy could be a problem in this feature, Tango might have to work hard to prevent on the fly maps from being shared with unauthorised apps or hackers.
On the specification end, the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro comes with a 6.4-inch QHD IPS display having a resolution of 1440*2560 pixels. It is fueled by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 SoC, coupled with 4GB of RAM. It is enabled by four cameras in all. The device bears an 8-megapixel front facing camera and a 16-megapixel rear RGB camera, a depth-sensing infrared camera with an imager and an emitter, as well as a motion tracking camera. The Phab 2 Pro is backed by a 4050mAh battery, with 15-hour battery backup.
The GSM based Phab 2 Pro comes with Dolby Atmos audio technology for its speakers, apart from Dolby Audio 5.1, it is enabled with Capture Technology for recording 3D sounds.
