Ringing Bells Will Launch Worlds Cheapest Smartphone At $7 In India

Ringing Bells Pvt. Ltd., a Noida based smartphone maker, which recently entered the Indian mobile phone market, is all set to launch world's cheapest smartphone known as “Freedom 251” at just Rs. 500. The company was established in 2015 and has a complete in-house product testing set-up in Noida. The Ringing Bells first entry to the industry was on February 8 when it launched India’s cheapest 4G smartphone ‘Smart101’ at Rs. 2,999.

“Ringing Bells Pvt. Ltd., with immense support from Make In India, Digital India, and Skill India programs is well poised to launch the most affordable smartphone ever. The phone will be popularly priced at under Rs 500. The final price announcement and the launch would be done by Shri Manohar Parrikkar, Hon’ble Union minister, Ministry of Defense, Govt. of India in the presence of Shri Murali Manohar Joshi, Hon’ble Member of Parliament,” the company said in a press release.

The specs and confirmed retail price of the Freedom 251 will be announced on Wednesday at the launch event scheduled for February 17, 2016, and will be held from 7 PM onwards at Nehru Park, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. In addition to Freedom 251, the company also has two feature phones Master and 4u, that are priced at Rs. 999 and Rs. 799 respectively, and a 5,600 mAh power bank, called Kiwi, priced at just Rs. 399.

With making a smartphone available at a price of Rs. 500, the Freedom 251 has the potential to significantly improve the lifestyle of people in the country with a low income. It will be interesting to see whether or not Ringing Bells is able to manufacture and sell this device on a large scale.
