You might remember that the leading South Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung was tipped to feature an on-screen fingerprint scanner on its flagship Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones ahead of their launch. However, that didn’t come to be true, but the same rumours sprouted for its upcoming Galaxy Note 8 smartphone due to technical concerns regarding security.
Now, according to a news report by North Korean firm News1, an official from Samsung confirmed that the rumours regarding the Display-Integrated Fingerprint Sensor in the Galaxy Note 8 smartphone are completely fake. The Samsung official said, “We made every effort to install a display-integrated fingerprint sensor on Galaxy Note 8, but we decided not to install it on this strategic phone due to various technical limitations such as security.”
The company housed the fingerprint sensor at the rear side of its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones, which has been described as inconvenient by many users and that may be the reason for which the company was supposed to integrate the new technology in first place. However, the time factor was believed to prevent the company in using that technology in its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones.
Interestingly, there are some reports in the market, which shows that Apple has been successful in implementing the on-screen fingerprint scanner and will soon introduce it in its upcoming iPhone 8 smartphone. As a recall, Samsung’s new Note series smartphone is supposed to be blessed with a 6.3-inch display and powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC in the US and the Exynos 8895 chipset outside the US. The smartphone is expected to be introduced in late August this year.
