Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ Launched in India: Starting Price at Rs 57,900

Samsung has launched a new range of flagship smartphones in India which includes Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus premium phones. Both smartphones were officially revealed at the Mobile World Congress this year. The phones have now been officially launched in India with the price starting at Rs 57,900 for the 64GB variant of the Galaxy S9.

The S9 Plus is an advanced variant and has been priced at Rs 65,900 for the 64GB variant and 72,900 for the 256GB variant. The Galaxy S9 is also available in 256GB memory variant which will be sold for Rs 64,900.The official sale of all the phones will begin from 16 March at Samsung retail stores, Airtel stores, and Flipkart online.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Specifications

The S9 (64GB) is the lowest priced variant and comes with a 4GB RAM. The smartphone is available in three internal memory options - 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. There is also an external memory (card) slot which can be used to expand up to 400 GB. The phone has a 3,000 mAh battery.

As for the camera, the S9 comes with a 12MP rear camera with an auto-shift sensor of f/1.5-f2/4 aimed at better low-light pictures. The phone also has an 8MP front camera sensor. The S9 features a 5.8-inch screen that is claimed to be 20 percent brighter than the S8.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Specifications

The Galaxy S9+ is the second phone launched by the South Korean company in India. It has been touted as a more powerful variant of the S9. The phone comes with a 6GB RAM and is available in three memory options of 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. The external memory slot can accept a card of up to 400GB. The S9+ comes with a slightly bigger 3,500 mAh battery.

The S9+ comes with a dual camera setup on the back that includes a 12MP camera with autofocus f/1.5-f/2.4 sensor and wide-angle lens and another 12MP autofocus f/2.4 sensor with a telephoto lens. The front panel has an 8MP sensor for selfies. The S9+ is also bigger in size with its 6.2-inch screen.

The phones also have a fingerprint sensor on the back, located just below the camera lens. The wireless charging feature has been added to make it more user-friendly.

Some other advanced features include a built-in live automatic translator which has been integrated into the camera of the phones and can translate more than 50 languages, the presence of the latest Android Oreo OS, inbuilt emoji creator (Animoji), dual aperture, slow-motion video recording, dual-stereo speakers and more.

The integrated AR Emoji feature, similar to Apple’s Animoji, allows users to create emojis based on their own faces and send to other users.

Both phones run Exynos 9810 Octa-core (four 2.8 GHz Mongoose M3 performance cores & four 1.7 GHz Cortex-A55 efficiency cores) chipset with Mali-G72 MP18 GPU. The high-performance processor and chipset enable several advanced functioning, including hybrid face detection, 3D face mapping, 1.2Gbps LTE and AI-powered depth sensing. The camera of the phones work fine even in low-lit conditions, thanks to the auto-adjusting aperture setting.

Both S9 an S9 Plus phones will be available in three color variants - Midnight Black, Lilac Purple, and Coral Blue.

Samsung has also recently unveiled the Enterprise edition of its Galaxy S9 and Galaxy A8 flagship smartphones, both of which will go on sale first in Germany. The S9 Enterprise Edition comes with a price tag of €849 while the A8 Edition has been priced at €499. Both phones are dual-SIM and receive some business-specific features including Enterprise Firmware Over-the-Air (E-FOTA) and Knox Configure, along with regular security updates.
