Sony Rolls Out Android 7.0 Nougat Firmware Overhaul To Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium

Sony has started rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat firmware overhaul to Xperia Z series smartphones. As of now the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium is receiving the update and it is expected to reach Xperia Z5 Compact soon. The Android Nougat update is being pushed via OTA upgrade for selected Sony smartphones and is region-specific, so one must keep checking their device for update notification.

The Android 7.0 Nougat update roadmap laid out by Sony earlier already included Xperia Z5 series smartphones that are happening now. According to Xperia Blog, this update is 1.2GB in size and brings a lot of Android Nougat features like multi-window support, self-timer button for the front camera, and Google Now integration in Xperia launcher. Sony has also updated the battery optimization settings on eligible Xperia Z5 smartphones. The update will get all the eligible Xperia Z5 devices a new build number 32.3.A.0.372. Sony in its update log on Xperia Z5 devices also mentions that you cannot downgrade your device to a lower Android version.

As we know that the Sony in August had announced that 11 of its devices will get Android support, starting with Xperia series. The last Sony device to receive the Nougat update in India is Xperia X. This phone was launched in India during May 2016 at Rs 48,990. The other phones in the list that are expected to receive the Nougat update soon are Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra, Xperia X Performance - and Xperia XZ & Xperia X Compact.

To Recall, Sony had launched the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium smartphones in October 2015 in India. The Xperia Z5 is priced at Rs 52,990 while the Xperia Z5 Premium costs Rs 62,990. The two smartphones are part of Sony's 2015 flagship line-up and both the handsets support 4G LTE running Android 5.1 Lollipop. The Xperia Z5 sports a 5.2-inch FullHD IPS display with a 1920x1080 pixels resolution and 428 ppi pixel density. The Xperia Z5 Premium, on the other hand, has a 5.5-inch 4K UHD display with a 3840x2160 pixels resolution and 806ppi pixel density. Both the devices are powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with Adreno 430 GPU and 3GB RAM along with 32GB of internal storage. It is further expandable by up to 200GB via microSD card. The Z5 uses a 2,900mAh battery, while the Z5 Premium comes with a larger 3,430mAh battery. They are non-removable and support Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 technology. Both the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium come with a 23-megapixel camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel camera on the front.
