The tech industry is bombarding with endless new gadgets and products each enticing users with its own set of features in the ongoing MWC 2016. On the flip side, there are other updates that users must know of. In one such report, Google India, the subsidiary of tech-giant Google has now brought forward a new feature in Google Maps application that will allow users to take detours as and when they wish. With the new update, Google Maps will also show users how long a stop will add to their trip while keeping them en route.
As per the reports, this new little feature that has been incorporated into the Maps application will now let users search for and add an extra stop on their routes without having to exit the navigation mode. The company started rolling out this feature in the U.S.A in October last year and now is officially rolling out in India.
Suren Ruhela, Director, Google Maps states, "Google Maps has enabled travellers to navigate with greater ease, safety and convenience for years now. This new update will ensure that they can make a sudden or anticipated pit-stop and detours without having to exit navigation mode. They can also add these to their routes for subsequent use if required, thereby easing the navigation process and also saving time."
In terms of working with this new feature, user has to simply tap the magnifying glass icon on the top-right corner of the screen. A soon as its tapped, user gets a list of drop-down options that includes petrol pumps, grocery stores, restaurants etc. Once the user clicks on any of the options, he is further shown a list of nearby petrol pumps, restaurants etc. To make it a pit-stop, the user just needs to click on the location and then it will be finalized. Removal of pit-stop is as easy as is the addition process. To remove any location from the list of pit-stops, the user just needs to revisit the location and then re-click the pre-selected location. As soon as it gets clicked, the user is presented with the option of removing it.
This is not the first time Google India has incorporated any new feature since earlier this month, it also incorporated many other new features that majorly involved showing names of streets with their exit points, tweaks in navigation interface, pairing reviews with photographs or disabling of turn-by-turn instructions. As of now, the option to add a shortcut to the user Timeline to quickly add a place to the history is also present.
