Google unveiled its latest Android O in March 2017 and highlighted many of its features back in May this year. The new Android O is currently in its third developer preview, but the naming of ‘O’ has still not revealed by the company. Like always, the company is supposed to reveal the name later this year, but just like any other major advancement, the predictions, leaks and rumours on what it could have already started to come in sight.
The internal source code of the new OS revealed that the Android O could be termed as the ‘Android Oatmeal Cookie’. The internal source code of Android O mentions ‘oc-dev’, and also states that the Google pixel is running on Android O Developer Preview or ‘oc-dev’, by which we can believe that the ‘oc-dev’ is a codename that stands for oatmeal cookie. The word ‘oatmeal cookie’ was also noticed in one of the slide presentations in May, which made it a strong presumption.
Apart from this, the new Android version, keeping all our assumptions in trash could also be named completely different. The Android O is also rumoured to be known as Android Oreo, whose possibilities are also high if Google partners with the company to do cross-promotions kind of things just like it has previously done with Android KitKat.
The latest Android preview version also confirmed the new OS to be the Android 8.0, which was a bit unclear when Android O was first announced. Google rolled out the first developer preview build of Android O in March, while the second developer preview was rolled out at I/O 2017 last month. The company has unveiled the third developer preview in the early June and has announced that one more release will take place in July, which will bring "near-final system images." The company states that the latest preview version features the latest version of the Android O along with final API level 26 and hundreds of bug fixes and optimisation.
