Apple Recommends Using Strong Passwords in iOS 10

Last week, Security Research company reported that it has found an issue in Apple’s security protected backups of iTunes in the latest upgrade of iOS, which makes the privacy of user a bit unprotected. Apple has confirmed and has announced to be working to fix that following flaw.

A spokesperson of the company in a statement to Forbes said, “We're aware of an issue that affects the encryption strength for backups of devices on iOS 10 when backing up to iTunes on the Mac or PC. We are addressing this issue in an upcoming security update." The company while referring the flaw again stated, "it does not affect iCloud backups.” Meanwhile, till the flaws get resolved the silicon valley based company advised to "ensure strong passwords on their Mac or PC."

The spokesperson later added, “We recommend users ensure their Mac or PC are protected with strong passwords and can only be accessed by authorized users. Additional security is also available with FileVault whole disk encryption.” The company didn’t reveal any exact timeline for the update.

The Security Researchers from ElcomSoft claimed that, by the following flaws the hackers can easily develop and hack local backups in iOS devices"The impact of this security weakness is severe," claimed the firm. It also stated that compared to the one used in iOS 9 backups, the new security check in iOS 10 was roughly "2,500 times weaker".

One must note that it's important for the attacker to have access to local backups of iOS 10 if he wishes to exploit the detected flaws since it can not be done via a remote location.
