The Google's annual developer conference - I/O 2017 has started in California and from the platform the tech giant has made available the beta version of Android O. Andriod O is the latest android OS version and Google had released Android O developer preview images back in March and now the company is up with its beta version as the part of 2nd developer preview. It must be noted that the Android O is the successor to Android Nougat and company is expected to incorporate some new features to garner the user's attention.
In March, when Google had rolled out the first developer preview, the company showcased the features like picture-in-picture, notification channels and improved keyboard navigation. The Google has also added an advanced feature called Smart Text Selection, that improves copy and paste through the help of machine learning. This Smart Text Selection feature now recognizes contexts on the screen such as an address and will be able to copy the whole thing with a double tap. Apart from this, it is also capable of bringing up Maps when navigated to the address. Notification Dots is a new feature that has been added for developers by which they can notify users about activity on the app, driving engagement.

Android O also touts better battery efficiency and Google is providing that through Android Vitals, which focuses on optimizing battery life, startup time, graphic rendering time, and stability. Google has introduced new tools for developers such as system optimizations, background apps limits, and Android Vitals Dashboards in the Play Console. It must be noted that the Google has not provided the detailed insights about all the major changes expected in Android O, the company might be saving them for the later stage.
Alongside the Android O Developers Preview 2, the Google also announced Android Go which is an optimized Android software for entry-level consumers on devices with up to 1GB of RAM. The light new Android software will eventually work on all versions of Android and includes useful stuff like easy data usage monitoring and free (read: does not use up your data) previews of YouTube videos. You can even download YouTube videos when you’re on wi-fi and watch them on the go so you don’t waste your precious megabytes. Again, it’s maybe not changing your life, but Android O will be huge for a huge number of people around the world.
