After upgrading the Nexus series with a smartphone and tablet, now Google has shown off a brand-new third entrant to this line-up that is named as Nexus Player. This new appliance in the burgeoning market of electronics devices is basically a new streaming video and music set-top box. It will runs on Android TV operating system, which has been debuted at I/O developer conference in June.
Discussing about the device, which is itself is a small black cylindrical tool and it'll ship with a small voice search-enabled remote control just like Amazon Fire TV alongside an optional Asus-made game controller. In particular for game junkies, it promises to provide the compatibility of Android games on a TV screen.
Articulately, the Nexus Player is packed with a 64-bit 1.8GHZ Intel Silvermont Quad-Core CPU. Here, it has been said that it can stream movies, music and TV shows from Google Play. Obviously, it will also work as an online media player and billing itself to support popular services including YouTube, Netflix, Plex and Pandora.
Diving into this newly launched component, which has imagination PowerVR Series 6 Graphics (2D/3D) Engine. In terms of memory, it is paired with 1GB RAM alongside 8GB of inbuilt storage. Additionally, Nexus player supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity options.
Apparently, Nexus Player is Google's answer to full-featured streaming boxes like the Roku and Apple TV. The firm seems intended to grab more consumers who faithfully buy the set-top-boxes of leading brands. As the matter of fact, the inclusion of Android functionality to televisions might be as a the next major step to heat up this segment.
As per the reports of Re/Code, the search engine giant will exclusively trade the device via Google Play store with a price tag of $99 in month of November just like Google Nexus 9. Along with a bundled Bluetooth-controlled remote, it is expected to go for pre-order from 17th of Oct.
