In a recent announcement, Google confirmed that its two major services Play Music and YouTube Red will be soon merged into a new, better and bigger streaming platform. “YouTube Red and Google Play Music will merge to create a new service,” said Lyor Cohen, YouTube’s head of music. The Search Engine giant has also assured that subscribers of either platform will be unaffected by this merger. The merge is intended to bring more subscribers to the new platform. Presently, the subscription of either of the two services gives access to both.

As per the official report of The Verge, users will be notified prior to the merge and it will not affect subscribers in any way. Google officially confirmed the news and said, ”Music is very important to Google and we’re evaluating how to bring together our music offerings to deliver the best possible product for our users, music partners and artists. Nothing will change for users today and we’ll provide plenty of notice before any changes are made.”

Google Play Music merge with YouTube Red

Although Google has assured that the subscription status of users will not be affected by this merge, it is still unclear what will happen to the subscribers in the places where only one service is present as of now. For example, Indian users only have access to Google Play Music subscription but not to YouTube Red. What happens to these subscribers after the merge of the two services is still not clear.

YouTube Red merge with Google Play Music

YouTube Red is a paid subscription-based streaming service for YouTube presently available only in a few countries including the United States. The paid subscription allows users to remove ads, watch videos in the background and save videos offline. But the service is not very popular among music listeners, which may have been one of the reasons behind this merge. Google Play Music is a popular music streaming service which comes preinstalled as the default MP3 player in most of the Android devices today.

The new platform to be created from the merge of these two apps is likely to provide a better music experience to users and give strong competition to other popular music apps like Spotify and Apple Music. It is also expected to be launched in more countries than before.
